Lab Software Needed
A reminder of the many ways to access OriginLab:
1) Our lab maintains 4 fully-paid and maintained versions w/$200 annual maintenance support plan with full upgrades and support …. the cost for the perpetual license was $3K.
Take the support part seriously, if you’re having trouble working up your data, call or email OriginLab, under our annual maintenance support plan they MUST help you.
Only the fluorimeter lab and 122 copies are designated lab-use and can remoted in easily.
Any old computer can get generally get old copy of OriginLab working. FREE 6-month copy!!! As a student, you are entitled to a FREE 6-month copy (12 window limit) of the most up-to-date OriginLabPro. Download at: https://www.originlab.com/index.aspx?go=PRODUCTS/OriginStudentVersion
$69/yr (30 window limit). We can’t fund personal software outside our 1-2 contractual copies. But if you’re in data-intensive at home, it may be worth the personal investment.
2) Other software: SciDavis (freeware version of Origin), JMP or RStudio (free for OSU, not easy to learn or suitable for our work), MatLab (free, great for analysis; but do recommend for figures), MatPlotLib (OK, if you’re already an expert).
OriginLab is STRONGLY rec. Why? B/c learning how to make quality figures and analyze data into a coherent story is the MOST important skill you will take-away from our lab. I cannot help you easily if I can’t edit or figures or access source data easily. Organize your data in powerpoint files, with CLICKABLE OriginLab inserts.

4) When/if needed: Gaussian + GaussView (remote or Linux only– free), LabView (free), Maple/Mathematics
